Red Cross Mission:
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
Our Fundamental Principles:
Humanity • Impartiality • Neutrality • Independence • Voluntary Service • Unity • Universality
We discussed what the Red Cross is and what it does. The Red Cross helps people all over the world and it is funded by private citizens volunteering and financial donations and corporate financial donations not the government. If someone experiences a house fire the Red Cross will help them get food, clothing and a hotel room for 3 days until people make arrangements. We discussed the preparation for Natural Disasters and how to make a plan to make it easier to communicate or locate our loved ones. Planning begins with taking the time to talk about potential disasters, establishing emergency contacts, practicing evacuation for our homes and determining two meeting places where our families will reunite. The disaster that the Red Cross responds to the most is house fires. We also discussed disaster supplies kits and what should be in them. We should plan on having supplies for everyone in the family for at least three days. We were given guides about different disasters that could affect the Pacific Northwest. 1. Fires at Home. 2. Winter Weather and Severe Storms. 3. Floods. 4. Earthquakes. 5. Hazardous Materials. 6. Wildfires. 7. Terrorism. 8. Volcanoes. 9. Tsunamis. There are several Red Cross apps that you can download to your mobile device for help in emergencies and Natural Disasters.
